What You'll Need

  • Electric Coffee Percolator
  • Coffee beans
  • Water

Step 1

Start with fresh, cold water, and fill your percolator with your desired amount of water for how many cups of coffee you’d like to brew.

Step 2

Next, grind your beans to a medium-coarse grind. Measure the coffee grounds based on your preference and the strength you like. A general guideline is to use 1 tablespoon of coffee grounds per 6 ounces of water, but adjust the amount according to your taste. If you like a stronger brew, add more grounds, or if you’d like a mellow cup, try adding less.

Step 3

Assemble your pot, place it on a heat source. Whether its your stove or a campfire, try to keep heat to medium-low or medium to prevent the water from boiling too rapidly.

Step 4

As the water heats up, it will begin to percolate through the coffee grounds and up the stem. You will hear that beautiful bubbling sound.

Step 5

Brew for 7-10 minutes, depending on strength preference, but be sure not to brew too long. Going over 15 minutes can result in a less delicious brew.

Step 6

Enjoy!

Storage: Once your beans are opened, store them in an airtight container that you keep in a cool, dry place. If you want the beans and your coffee to taste their best, which obviously you do, grind them just before you start brewing.
